Property Tax Abatements

Some cities offer property tax abatements or exemptions as an incentive for home buyers. These incentives can take the form of reduced property taxes for a certain period of time or complete exemptions from property taxes. However, it’s worth noting that these types of incentives are relatively rare and typically only offered in specific circumstances or for specific groups of people.

One example of a city that offers property tax abatements is New York City, which has a property tax abatement program for new construction and rehabilitation of certain types of buildings. The abatement program reduces property taxes for a period of time, typically 10-25 years.

Another example is the city of Hamilton in Ohio, has a program called “100% Home Ownership” which gives a property tax abatement for 15 years to those who buy and live in a home in certain neighborhoods.
